Public pools near Brooklyn, NY

Ah, Brooklyn! A place where the urban jungle meets a vibrant community spirit. Let's dive into some of the top publicly accessible pools in this borough. Whether you're looking to cool off on a scorching summer day or get some laps in, Brooklyn's got you covered.

First up, we've got the McCarren Park Pool. Nestled right between Williamsburg and Greenpoint, this spot is a true gem. Open from late June to early September, it's perfect for those hot summer days when all you want to do is take a dip. The pool opens at 11 am and closes at 7 pm daily, giving you ample time to splash around. And the best part? It's free! The pool itself is Olympic-sized, offering plenty of space whether you're an avid swimmer or just floating around. Pro tip: Arrive early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday rush.

Next on our list is the Red Hook Recreation Area Pool. This one’s a bit of a local secret tucked away in Red Hook, but oh, is it worth finding! Also free of charge and open during the summer season from 11 am to 7 pm, this pool provides an escape from the hustle and bustle with its laid-back vibe. The water quality here is top-notch, and lifeguards are always on duty ensuring safety for everyone. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet while you swim, weekdays are your best bet.

Then there's Kosciuszko Pool in Bed-Stuy, another fantastic option that won't cost you a dime. Open from late June through Labor Day weekend from 11 am to 7 pm daily, this pool features both adult and kiddie sections making it ideal for families. The ambiance here has that classic Brooklyn charm—think historic architecture meets modern amenities. Weekday mornings are usually less crowded if you prefer having more space.

For those who crave something unique, check out Douglass & DeGraw Pool situated right between Carroll Gardens and Gowanus. This pool stands out with its welcoming atmosphere and well-maintained facilities. It operates on a similar schedule—open from 11 am to 7 pm during the summer months—and yes, it's also free! With its larger-than-average size for a city pool and clean waters, it's perfect for both serious swimmers and casual dippers alike.

Venturing further south? You can't miss Sunset Park Pool located in—you guessed it—Sunset Park! Perched on high ground with views that’ll make your jaw drop (hello Statue of Liberty!), this spot offers more than just swimming; it's an experience! Open daily from late June through early September between 11 am and 7 pm without any entry fee required makes it accessible for everyone in our community. Early afternoons can get quite busy here so aim for mornings if tranquility’s what you're after.

Finally, don’t overlook Betsy Head Pool in Brownsville—a true neighborhood staple since it opened back in the '30s! This historic site not only offers swimming but also has diving boards if you're feeling adventurous. Like others on our list, it’s free of charge during its seasonal run from late June until Labor Day weekend with hours stretching from 11 am to 7 pm daily.
